About Us

We are Christians who are trying to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our Mission

Our desire is to please God, to serve Him and to glorify Him in all that we do. We serve a personal God, who is our Father. This relationship, which once was destroyed because of our sin, has been restored through faith in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and His sacrifice on our behalf. Through His resurrection we hope to live eternally in the presence of our Father and of our Savior.

Our most important purpose is to share this good news with all who will receive it, and who desire to have a personal relationship with God. We invite anyone to investigate these things further by studying God's Word, the Bible. We wish to help you, and have you help us, in this quest for truth, a greater faith, and a closer walk with God.

Our Name

You may be wondering why you cannot find a name or a title on this website that uniquely identifies our group, like "First Church of God" or "Lincoln Church of Christ" or something like that. Why have we not "denominated" ourselves? It is not because we want to be deceptive, misleading, or strange. It is simply because we are trying to be like the churches we read about in the New Testament.

In the New Testament, we find that all Christians are members (body parts) of one church, also referred to as the body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23, 4:11-16, 5:30). Christians also gather together in local autonomous assemblies, which are described by such terms as "the churches of Galatia" (Gal. 1:2), or "the church of God which is in Corinth" (1 Cor. 1:2), or "the churches of Christ" (Rom. 16:16). Notice that these churches aren't given titles, but are rather described in terms that indicate their allegiance to God through Christ.

We do not wish to foster a denominational concept for the church, so we prefer to be described, rather than titled, just like the churches we read about in the New Testament. So, since we live in the greater Providence, Rhode Island area, it is appropriate to describe us as the greater Providence church, or the greater Providence church of Christ, or the greater Providence church of God. Since we regularly assemble at the Blackstone Valley Historical Society building in Lincoln, Rhode Island, we could be described simply as the church in Lincoln.
